Are you wrapped up in praise?

“…To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3.

Praise and Worship. The Hebrew root for “garment” Strong’s # 4594 maateh shows praise as more than a piece of clothing casually thrown over our shoulders.josephscoat

It literally teaches us “to wrap” or “cover” ourselves —that the garment of praise is to leave no openings through which hostile elements can penetrate. This garment of praise repels and replaces heavy spirit.

This is a special message of instruction and hope for those oppressed by fear and doubt. The instruction is “to put on” this garment. A heavy coat from our closet is of little use until it is “put on” and in doing so resists the cold wind. Putting on the garment of praise insolates us against the heaviness of oppression. So, put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness and lift up your voice to God.
