“It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they who look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.” Zechariah 12:9, 10 NKJV.
This obvious prophetic reference to the Cross of Christ is a dramatic witness to the ministry and power of the Holy Spirit, whose mission is to glorify the Messiah and draw hearts to Him. It explains how the outpouring of the Holy Spirit has caused and will cause death and sacrifice to become understood—from Pentecost until He comes again.
The revelation of Christ’s suffering and life was hidden from the “inhabitants of Jerusalem” until the Spirit came (Acts 2). Since then, it is the continuing work of the Spirit, through empowering the witness of Jesus’ disciples, that helps reveal the true nature of Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross, just as prophesied in John 15:26.
It is too bad so-called leaders of these current nations take no heed to All Mighty God’s promise to destroy all nations who come against Jerusalem.
