The Conqueror

Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” And no one in heaven or on earth was able to open the scroll or to look at it. So I wept much because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. But one of the elders said to me, do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.” And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Revelation 5:2-6. NKJV.  51lLhicpiiL._SY300_

Lamb, arnion; Strong’s #721 originally, a little lamb, but the diminutive force is largely missing in the NT. In John 21:15, arnion is used of young believers, while 29 times in Revelation. It is the title of the exalted Christ. Arnion is in direct contrast to the Beast.

The Beast is savage, cruel, hostile, and destructive. In contrast our Lord as lamb is gentle, compassionate, loving, and kind, innocently suffering and dying to atone for our sins. In Revelation, lion and lamb combine the two elements of majesty and meekness.

I’m glad you are back to word studies, Manny.

The picture accompanying your post reminds me of the book “The Chronicles of Narnia” which my daughter was just watching today in preparation for something she is doing at church.

“It is the title of the exalted Christ. Arnion is in direct contrast to the Beast.” I didn’t know that the word was used so often in the book of Revelation. And it stands to reason that The Lion of Judah directly contrasts with the Beast.

Thanks for the Greek word study, Manny. I always learn something from your word studies.

    God’s blessings my friend…
