Jesus paid the ransom; He bought us out of the marketplace of sin.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Romans 3:23,24 NKJV.

Redemption, apolutrosis, Strong’s # 629: A release secured by the payment of a ransom, deliverance, setting free.  Jesus gives us forgiveness and justification, redemption as the result of expiation, deliverance from evil and the penalty of sin. The price paid was Jesus’ shed blood.

We have received a right relationship with God through the Blood. God has presented Jesus as the sacrifice for atonement or reconciliation from a separated humanity. Fellowship with a holy God can only be realized through atoning for the sins that has separated mankind from God and His covenant promises. It is the shed blood of Christ that ultimately satisfied the requirements of God’s justice.

It is though faith in the blood of Christ that mankind is justified in God’s eyes. The blood of Christ then also becomes the bond that joins people to God and entitles them to God’s covenant provisions. The blood of Christ is forever the only means of right relationship with the holy God.

This is one of the greatest Greek words I think. Without apolutrosis we would all be lost. Since we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (a verse I use almost daily), we need a Redeemer.

In one post, Manny, I think you have described how man is saved well.

“The blood of Christ is forever the only means of right relationship with the holy God.”

    Amen, amen, and amen.

    Thanks Manny.

Yes, what a word! It seems ironic that so many after being BA forget that they still have a slave mentality. Oh, yes everything non-plus left me then. Ok, sure. Focus is then on how to become prosperous ala “Prosperity message.” Our prosperity is in and of a person who has redeemed us to conform us to His image. He never owned a home, a boat, a jet plane, extensive wardrobe, two cars or two chickens in every pot. Yet He possessed riches that made this universe and all it has seem like chump change in the face of His magnificence. All Glory to Jesus Christ!
