The Inner and Outer Court.

revival final

“But the priests, the Levites, the sons of Zadok, who kept charge of My sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from Me, they shall come near Me to minister to Me, and they shall stand before Me to offer to Me the fat and the blood,” says the Lord God. “They shall enter My sanctuary, and they shall come near My Table to minister to Me, and they shall keep My charge. And it shall be, whenever they enter the gates of the inner court, that they shall put on linen garments; no wool shall come upon them while they minister within the gates of the inner court or within the house.” Ezekiel 44:15-17 NKJV.

As the Holy Spirit leads people to and through revival, He calls us to our ultimate priority; to worship God in the innermost sanctuary of His presence (verse 16).All ministry must become the natural outflow of an intimate relationship with God, who alone can impart life, healing, forgiveness, and cleansing.

Ezekiel tells us what he sees as the “inner court” ministry to the Lord, The Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple  (Ezk.43:5 and again here in our text Vs. 15-17) and “outer court” ministry to the people (44:19).

The priests who neglected the inner court were called an abomination to God (Ezk.44:13). In In contrast, faithful priests who ministered to the Lord with worship and adoration in the inner court received God’s enablement to minister to the needs of the people in the outer court.

God gives us His pattern and calls us to:

  • Come near, that is, to daily put God at the center of our lives;
  • Minister to God, that is to give Him the glory, honor, and power that are due Him (Rev.4:10,11);
  • Stand before Him, that is, to wait upon God, totally available to Him, acknowledging His lordship over us.

    Some speculate that these verses describe events during the Millennium. I lean very much against this idea because of the statement in Hebrews that sacrifices were fulfilled and finished through the death of Jesus.

    This section reminds me of Isaiah 35. It seems that there is a much better chance that it speaks to the time after Jesus returns to earth.

    I appreciate the 3 calls you have shared with us here, Manny.

    I also have a request.

    Isaiah 35:7 mentions the word “dragons.” Could you look up the word in the Hebrew and let me know what it means? I think the NASB calls the same word “jackals.”

    Another thought-provoking post.

    God’s blessings…
