Yeshua ha-Mashiach

Hebrew Word studyZone

“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks and sixty -two weeks; the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times…” Daniel 9:25.

Messiah, mashiach, Strong’s # 4899: Anointed one, messiah from the verb mashach “To anoint”, ‘To apply the holy anointing oil to an individual.” In Leviticus 4:3, 16 mashiach describes the high priest and anointed kings, such as Saul ( 2Sam. 1:14) and David (2Sam.19:21; Ps.18:50). In the Psalms and in Daniel, mashiach is particularly used for David’s anointed heir, the king of Israel and ruler of all nations (Ps. 2:2; 28:8; Dan. 9:25,26).

Jesus’ earliest followers called Him Jesus the Messiah or in Hebrew, Yeshua ha-Mashiach,  “Messiah” or “Anointed One” is Christos in Greek and is the origin of the English form “Christ.” Whenever the Lord is called “Jesus Christ,” He is being called “Jesus the Messiah.”
