Prophetic Dreams and Visions.

Over thirty percent of the Bible is compiled from dreams and visions. From Genesis to Revelation, God revealed His plans for His children through various dreams and visions. God still speaks to us today, if we will but listen.

In the book of Job, Elihu explains to Job that God may speak in one way or in another, yet man does not perceive it. So in dreams of the night God opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction. Job 33:14-16.

The Apostle Peter (Acts 2:16,17) quoted Joel’s prophecy (Joel 2:28)”And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions…” This is to be understood as what shall be the norm for believers in the various ways God will speak to them after the day of Pentecost.XIR216654

Two quick examples that show us how God revels His plans and purpose for our lives, the first is found in Genesis 15:12-14. Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him. Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. And also the nation whom they serve “I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.”

God speaks to Abram in a dream what will happen to his descendants, great bondage and deliverance with great reward.

In Genesis 20:3-7. Abimelech in a dream in the night hears from God and receives instruction as to know exactly what to do in regards to Sarah. God makes it very clear that Sarah is not to be touched (as a Dad with three daughters this specific instruction would have been well received by me) and emphasises that if you do, “You shall surely die.”

As we have seen, instruction can and does come from God to help us understand His ways and purpose for our lives. Tomorrow we will learn from one of the two Biblical champions of dream-revelations.

Manny, what do you make of the news that a bunch of Muslims reportedly are having dreams where they see an angelic or Jesus-like person pointing them to seek the Gospel or someone who can explain to them the Gospel?

Have you heard of this? I believe even apologist Ravi Zachariah made mention of this in one of his lectures…

That is news to me. Sounds like our Father is at work. I am going to check this out for sure. It is exciting to say the least. It sounds to me that our Savior is setting His sights on this huge group of zealous believers who He desires to bring into a relationship with the One and only true God. Exciting!

i have checked out a few You tube videos as well as some news reports and i feel that Joel’s prophecy is being fulfilled on all flesh, referring to every category of persons and not every person. Muslims are for sure receiving dreams and visions from our Lord. Exciting times in regards to God working in the midst of a world out of control.

It is not surprising that 1/3rd of the Bible is comprised of dreams and visions. The major and minor prophets contain a high percentage.

Many think that the verse you have quoted in Joel 2:28 refers to the days ahead. I agree with this assessment. The verses following mention that:

    Joel 2:31-32
31 “The sun will be turned into darkness
    And the moon into blood
Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.
32 “And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the LORD
    Will be delivered;
For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
There will be those who escape,
    As the LORD has said,
Even among the survivors whom the LORD calls.”

Chapter 3 (v. 16) continues on with verses that appear to refer to the Great Tribulation that Jesus discusses in Matthew 24:29 where He uses the same terms.

By the way, Manny, in my KJV Bible you should see all of the references to prophetic verses, Old and New Testament, alongside the above verses from the Book of Joel. It only verifies your statement about percentages.

Before you started this series, I began doing a post on false prophets. Since I already have 10 of the 12 monthly posts up, there is time for a bit of a study. I should have it up by the end of the month. It will be only one post.

This is a great start to what looks like an excellent series. I look forward to the remaining posts.

    God’s blessings…
