God saw the light, that it was good…

Then god saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Genesis 1:31, NKJV.

Genesis 1.31

Good, tob, Strong’s #2896: Good, goodness, beautiful, joyful, precious, whatever is right, pleasant, or happy; the opposite of sorrow or evil. This adjective has a much wider range of meaning than the word “good” has in English.

Here in Genesis we have the divine approval in the “was good,” formula that will occur seven times to emphasize creations quality and aptness for its purpose. Genesis 1:4,1:10, 1:12, 1:18, 1:21, 1:25, and 1:31.

We see in the first occurrence in Genesis 1:4, the Creator evaluates His product: “God saw the light, that it was good.” Shortly thereafter, tob is used in contrast with its antonym ra’(bad or evil) as in Genesis 2:17. We are to hate evil,(Ps.97:10) as an extremely simple but an extremely accurate means of evaluating our regard for God and His ways.

Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed, it was very good.

    Another great word study, Manny.

I love creation verses. I am blessed to be able to see God in His creation. Words cannot express my appreciation for His unconditional love.

I wonder what the greek word is for “goodness;” one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit?

    Do you know?

    God’s blessings…
