Thus says the Lord, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go. Isaiah 48:17.
Teaches, lamad; Strong’s # 3925. To instruct, train, prod, goad, and teach; to cause someone to learn. The origin of the word comes from goading cattle (As a young U.S. Marine I remember our drill instructor would halt us in marching by his call of “Whoa heard!), teaching and learning are attained through a great variety of goading, by memorable events, techniques, or lessons.
From lamad comes talmid, melammed, and Talmud, being, “scholar,” “student,” and the “Book of Rabbinic Learning.”

As someone who has a degree in the teaching profession, I know there is really only one Great Teacher. I prefer to be called a facilitator but I know most people don’t use the word. I also find myself in the role of counselor occasionally. Yet, I know there is only one Great Counselor.
We could certainly use a huge “Whoa herd” from above. The world teaches us to profit in the wrong ways.
Maybe God’s way of saying “Whoa herd” is non-verbal. Maybe the crazy things we are seeing in our day are God’s way of trying to corral an out-of-control pack of mules.
Thanks for the nugget, Manny.

I agree we are a bit mulish until we meet Him. Thanks for your comments.
