The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Psalm 12:6.

Refine, tsaraph; Strong’s # 6884. To melt, to refine, test, or purify metal; any refining, whether literal or figurative; to prove, smelt, examine; to try by fire. This verb describes the melting process that removes impurities from precious metals, such as gold or silver.

In psalm 26:2, King David says to God, “Try (refine) my mind and my heart.” Psalm 12:6, God’s pure words are compared to silver purified seven (seven indicates full or complete refining) times in a furnace.

We all can benefit from a self-check as King David said in psalm 17:3. You have tested my heart; you have visited me in the night; you have tried (examined) me and have found nothing (nothing evil); I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23,24.
