“The Holy One, Blessed is He!”

Every day I will bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever. Psalm 145:2.

Bless, barach-Strong’s #1288. To speak a blessing, to salute, congratulate, thank, praise; to kneel down. Barach is the root word from which baruch (“blessed one”) and barachah (“blessing”) are derived.

A big hint here is the word Berech, “Knee,” is said to be the source of these words. Throughout the O.T. one got down on his knees to receive words of blessing, whether to God in heaven or to the king on his throne. From God’s perspective He is the Blesser, the One who gives the ability to live a rich, full, and abundant life.

In the big inning, (Genesis) God the Creator after having created man and woman immediately blessed them (Gen. 1:28). God’s promises to them that are obedient are to this day spoken by ministers of God’s Word quoting the Aaronic Benediction of Numbers 6:22-27.

In Jewish worship, God is frequently called ha-Qodesh baruch hu, or literally, “the Holy One, blessed is He!”

Great word study, Manny. I removed my comment after I saw that WordPress made it obvious that it was from your blog. What a Bible verse!!!

Glad you liked it. I think little bites each day can bring food for thought.
