Are You Dwelling In The Secret Place?

In the Old Testament God provided many visual signs of His presence; the pillar of fire at night, the cloud of covering in the day are two. He captivates us in some of His majestic work as God Almighty who delights in revealing Himself to His people in ways they can understand.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him will I trust.” Psalm91:1,2.

Almighty, shadday, Strong’s #7706.  All-powerful; when it appears as ‘El Shadday, it is “God Almighty.” This was the name that the patriarchs knew Him by (Genesis 17:1, Exodus 6:3). Scholars trace the origins to a verb shadad, which means “mighty, unconquerable.” Others relate its origin to Akkadian (an extinct Semitic language of ancient Mesopotamia before 2000 B.C.) word for “mountain,” meaning God’s greatness, strength, or His everlasting nature.

Another interesting definition of Shadday is a compound of the particle sheh (which or who) and day (sufficient). Sheh-day or Shadday is therefore the all-sufficient God, eternally capable of being all that His people need. *

These verses reveal three titles for God besides the personal name of the Lord (Yahweh), ‘Elyon (the Most High), Shaddai (the Almighty), and Elohim (here meaning “the Sublime God”).

Are you there? Abiding under the Shadow of the Almighty.

I have just read the story of Israel’s escape from the Egyptians. It is my first time through the KJV. I have always read the NASB. Anyway, this word study is another wonderful lesson for me.

    God’s blessings…

What a rich story from the Word of God. I remember when i read about the plaques and the words to this effect: darkness was over the land so a man could not see his hand in front of his face. Yet in the land of Goshen there was a clear and distinct line in which the children of Israel dwelled in the light of day and only in Goshen. Beware all who would mess with Israel “Do not touch, the apple of My eye!”
