Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Gal.5:19-21.
“Lust” “desire” or “passion” The Greek word “epithumia” springs from the Greek word thumos from which “thermos” and “thermostat” are derived. Please note that there is a definite play on words here. The idea here is don’t let your carnal nature run unbridled causing your thermostat to get too high, submit it to the only person able to help the Holy Spirit of God.
The flesh desires to be ratified (sanctioned or confirmed), gratified (pleasured or pleased), and satisfied (satiated or filled full, maximized) we as believers must choose to live in the Spirit, and walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Unfortunately, the Holy Spirit of God is not a concern of the majority. It is no wonder that we see so much of, as you have put it, the “carnal nature running unbridled causing thermostats to get too high.”

The concern is for prosperity, to look, feel and ride like the Jones and to have a perpetual Happy face. :——)
Some of the corpses really stink before the flesh calms down.
