Whatcha Thinkin On?

Finally, brethren, whatever things are noble, whatever things just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8.

Good report, Euphemos: Strong’s #2163. Compare “euphemism” and “euphemistic.”The combination of eu, “well” and pheme, “a saying.” Euphemos is speech that is gracious, promising, praiseworthy, and fair sounding.

It includes the avoidance of words of Ill omen. An O.T. counterpart is found in Prov. 16:24: “Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.”

Character and conduct begin in the mind. Our actions are affected by the things we dwell on in our thoughts. Apostle Paul cautions his readers to concentrate on things that will result in right living and in God’s peaceVs 9 sums it up quite well. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
